Grampians News

While I was in the Grampians I stayed in a quaint cabin in Wartook. In the adjacent cabin, simply by coincidence, were some old friends from Germany I’ve climbed with in Hueco, Switzerland, and Colorado. Andreas Barth and Dorothea Karalus (there was some other guy with them too, but I forgot his name, maybe Alexis? or Allen?). I climbed with them a bit in Australia and we had some good times. Both Andreas and Dorothea fly under the radar somewhat. They are not only both very knowledgable and talented rock climbers, but they are also both very intelligent and thoughtful people as well. They stayed for more than a month after I left, and Dora managed to put up a difficult new boulder, In the Cloud V12. The more I thought about it, it was hard for me to come up with a list of difficult female first ascents, and I have to think this is one of the hardest problems ever established by a female. It looks like something I’d like to try if I ever return. The only other V12 FA I can think of is Polly Pocket Sit, by Alex Puccio in Val Bavona, Ticino. If there are more I would love to hear about them!

Dora went out at night and with headlamps, climbed the FA. Here is the uncut footage!
