Mt. Evans

Sunday I went to an old area that has been bouldered at for years. Dave Graham is in town, living next door, and he and I poured over ideas as to where to look for new boulders. I had first visited the area in 2002, but it was dark and I couldn’t see much. I wrote it off after Ben Scott proclaimed there was nothing there. I thought it might be good for a look again, and Dave drove back to scope it out and found that it had been strangely neglected. He found some good projects and we went to work.
We warmed up and quickly started trying some new boulders. Dave did the first one first, and I did it a couple of tries later. It is so awesome to figure out new beta, on new rock and have good crew to climb with. We walked just up the hill and tried a very nice and very hard line. Dave and I almost did all the moves together, and it seems this new problem could be V14, although it’s difficult to say so early on. I then went down the hill and flashed a great V10 put up by Kevin Jorgeson. While we were climbing on that Carlo Traversi was doing the first ascent of a classic V12, although I am afraid one of the crimps may break. I finished up the day putting up a nice V6 with a big basketball sloper called The Idiot.
Mostly it was just fun to be outside with some motivation on some good new problems. I look forward to climbing on the new projects here and all of the ones I found in the past few days in Chaos Canyon! Looks to be a fun summer.
